After reading a few stories of mint stamps on here getting stuck to other stamps and/or to something else like glassine, paper, etc., I was wondering how I could safely store my mint stamps so that this doesn't happen since it may appear to be related to humidity and/or the storage media that the stamps are kept in. I currently have the stamps in glassine and paper envelopes and in 102 cards. I have those stamp pockets that are used in circuit books, but I have not used them yet. Should I put my stamps in them for storage? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The few gum sheets I have I store them in archival Avery sheet protectors. They are economical when purchased in 200 box or larger. Sure there are others who produce simular archival products.

I recommend the 'Maximum' system from Lighthouse:

We often find small sachets in the packaging of expensive electronic equipment like cameras or cell phones. These little packets contain substances called desiccants, which are used to ensure everything stays dry.

I think it also depends on where you live. I live in the intermountain West where the climate is semi-arid. This means that humidity is generally low. I've lived here for almost 33 years; stamps placed loose just in blank envelopes are in just as pristine condition now as they were when I put them in years go.

As a result, I take few if any precautions.

Just keep the humidity down in the house .It doesn't matter what you store your mint stamps in ,glassines,102 cards, binders or album pages . The horror stories are about people who put stamps in basements or storage units were they get damp . Just commonsense will keep them safe ,don't open the windows on hot humid days and dry your wet clothes by hanging them in the house ,commonsense is the key .

Hi Jogil
I live in a cool damp part of the UK and store my mint stamps in Prinz mounts. I've never had a problem storing or displaying them, and I don't worry about them, even the most expensive stamps. The main problem is the combination of heat and humidity so you need to be careful storing them in this circumstance. Mint stamps gathered together in glassines can stick together, speaking from bitter experience, so floortrader's suggestion of dessicants is a good one if you store lots together.
Cheers, Tim H

My collection is held in Prinz/Scott and Showgard mounts organized in manilla stockpages. I live in south Florida with air conditioning nearly all year round. Never had a single problem.
