Hi! I've got a number of Indonesia stamps, all similar in style, and are said to be from a 1949 issue (#s 3 thru 18). My problem is I can't find a reference to them in the Scotts Catalogues or Scotts Big Blue albums.
These stamps all have photo like pictures, framed with "Repoeblik" on top and "Indonesia" on the bottom, and column designs on either side.
I've searched Dutch Indies, Indonesia, Netherlands Indies, and have found nothing. I suspect 1949 was a political transition year, and these stamps may just never have been sanctioned.
Probably you're dealing with stamps from the provisional government based in Europe at the time. Usually they're not used. So, more a political statement than real stamps, but historically interesting. Hope this helps.
