Someone here posted a similar explanation of postage stamp codes in response to a 19th century cover with love letter in it. I tried this when I mailed cards to my (then) fiance at Valentines last month, and the meaning was lost on her. Then again, she married me ahead of our scheduled wedding so maybe she caught the message subconsciously :)

Here's a new meaning: if sending a letter to a foreign country with high postage costs place stamp 3 cm below UR corner so it won't get cancel and use again. +]

SDTOM - this was not a "philatelist's message system." It was used by common folk.
