glad Doug was able to help. Now, you can think about how to present it. I have a penny black with my initials on it sitting on my desk. What I did: Got a black Stock Card that had two strips on it, so I could put the stamp in the middle of the card. Cut the card down so it was the same size as a hard plastic trading card holder Inserted the stamp in the cut-down card into the carrier.
This protects the stamp, makes it big enough so I don't lose it, and let's me look at it whenever I want.
Not saying that you need to do it exactly this way, but it might make it into something a bit more when you hand it to your dad.
"I brought one for £38". You may have bagged a bargain so it would be good to see the stamp here. For that price I would normally say it is on the lower limits of being acceptable as it might indicate a two margin, heavy cancel, damage etc... but I'm willing to be surprised and seeing as it came from a reliable source...that is possible.
FYI, the first link will get you a 2 margin stamp with a "certificate" which is from a mail order catalog. The stamp will be real but not worth the money you paid, you can get a lot better for the same money. I know this because I ordered the same stamp as a newbie not reading the fine print... The stamp I got was decent but worth half of what I paid, the kicker is that is was a plate 10 which boosted the value 3x so I made out ok on the investment. Be wary of certs unless you research who they are from.
