Have you returned back to stamp collecting after not collecting stamps for some time? After not collecting stamps for around ten years, I decided to return back to the hobby. I am also enjoying it more now than I did before since I feel that I have been able to do more in the time that I have been back than in all of the time before I stopped. There's something that can sometimes be refreshingly nice about meeting an old friend that one has lost contact with.

When I The had my stroke I returned to stamp collecting as it was something I enjoyed as well as do. The physical damage was somewhat severe. Tom |

I've gotten back into the hobby recently with my wife being pregnant and the birth of our son. I don't have to leave the house and I don't need a set schedule. |

Many of us go through cooling-off periods, for various reasons. True philatelists never quit. |

I stopped collecting in 1992 ... then started up again in 2007. Took just over 3 years to fill my 15-year hole. Then I bought a UV lamp & started collecting tagging varieties. Guess I had to create more holes that needed filling. |

Quote: When I The had my stroke I returned to stamp collecting...
I had almost the same thing...I had surgery that didn't go as well as could be hoped, and I needed something to keep me quiet for a while. I hadn't collected stamps for almost 30 years but it worked well as a "quieter". Now that I have completed my recovery period, I find that I enjoy stamp collecting whether it keeps me quiet or not. |

Although I never really left the hobby, there were many years when I only broke out my stamp collection two ot three times a year. During this period I was focusing on my career and raising a family. Now that I'm retired, my stamps stay out on a table in the den and I work on my collection almost daily. |

I returned to collecting almost 4 years ago after being away for over 30 years. Back in my teens, girls and beer became more important, but I never got rid of my collection. (To be clear, those two things are still important, I've just learned to prioritize.) |

I picked it up again about ~15 months ago after dropping it for most of the previous ~15-20 years. I've been going crazy since. I've gone through so many stamps in that time that I almost have to count my duplicates on a bathroom scale. |

I am a brand-new stamp collector, having "re-entered" the hobby after some 30 years. When I was 8 years old, my grandmother gave me the Harris Liberty Album for my birthday and a bunch of canceled stamps. I enjoyed this and the album but there were just so many (hundreds) stamps I didn't have and other then new issues, I didn't have access or ability to purchase older stamps that were ghost displayed in the album. For the next few years, my grandmother continued to send me new, un-cancelled stamps, which I stored in the blank pages of the album. Beyond that, the stamp album got tossed into a drawer and eventually a box. Fast forward some three decades, and I have always wanted to rekindle my interest but life and other responsibilities got in the way until a few years ago. I was at the Seattle Space Needle and in their gift shop they had an item that had an un-cancelled 1962 commemorative stamp and a short history about the issue. That really spurred my interest, especially the history behind the stamp. When I got back home did some digging and found the old stamp album, although the biding had basically completely disintegrated, and did a quick web search for stamp stores in my area. Found one, and headed over there. I didn't know how much this "new" hobby was going to cost me but pleasantly surprised to see he had a bowl full of mint stamps for 1-cent over face value. I also purchased the most recent Harris Liberty stamp album not knowing about any others. Got home and my son and I spent hours going through the album, placing the stamps and discussing the history. I am now designing my own pages for the stamps. |

Hi! I started as a kid in the mid 1950s, and continued thru the late 1960s when family and career took priority. Frankly, the hobby was too expensive for me then. Two years ago I was browsing thru ebay and saw some stamps. After looking for some time, it hit me....... I really missed collecting, but now I could afford to "do it right". It wasn't long before a built up a nice US collection in Scott Nationals, and then a worldwide with Big Blues. I'm really happy over my return, and enjoy the educational process quite a bit. |

I started collecting in 1964 and have never left. There have been, however, peaks and valleys of collecting intensity. Right now I'm in one of the intense periods. Lots of backlog from those valleys to work through. Always great fun to get those past acquisitions mounted and covers written up!

I started back in the "Fifties" and while I didn't stop collecting, I certainly was less active during the '80s and '90s. My interest and activity has increased considerably during the last ten years as I slid into retirement. Undoubtedly, this forum and its knowledgeable members created some of the impetus to collect again.
