I would like to begin a collection for stamps issued during the period of 1933-1945 for the US and European countries that took part in WWII and am in search of an album. MDC appears to address the specific time frame for Germany and the occupied countries but their website is unclear regarding whether all stamp issues are included in their album and whether all stamp issues for the occupied countries are included. There does not appear to be any way to contact MDC to ask questions. Another album appears to be available through JVC but they appear to be out of business and the album does not appear to contain all stamps issued during the period and all countries (France, for example, does not appear to be included). Does anyone have any contact information for MDC or know of any alternative album seller? Thank you in advance for any replies.

Other collectors might be able to recommend a pre-printed illustrated album that will fit your needs, but I'm not familiar with one. If a pre-printed album doesn't exist, you may want to try printing pages that you can download from stampalbums.com (AKA "Steiner Pages" as they are often referred to here). The cost is about $30 and they have pages for almost every stamp ever issued. You can go in and print just the pages you need for that era. May not be perfect, but it's a good compromise if you can't find something else. They do have pages specifically for German-occupied areas of WWII, for example, but you'll need to find and print the pages you want separately for other countries, though. |

Terence, that looks like an interesting album at that site. I'd just mention to any new collectors that their stamp prices are hugely inflated, however. Most items they're selling can be had for a small fraction of what they're selling them for. I recently bought one of the Hitler souvenier sheets they're selling at about 15% of their price, for example, and they're selling common US Stamps (which can be bought for face value or less) at a dozen times face or more. Again, the album might be a decent deal, just look elsewhere for the stamps! |

Hi Artful,
Thanks for the heads up, and as you say their prices are over market and not for me.

Hi davlm63,
Perhaps the countries omitted are the occupied countries and only those countries fielding an army for the duration are included. France, though occupied, did have the Free French forces but these were fielded as part of the GB forces. Notable were the Polish airmen who served with distinction and valour as part of the Royal Air Force. As did many young US fliers in the RAF Eagle Squadron.

Terry--thank you for your reply and assistance. The wwII collector's webpage appears to be from 2012 and when I emailed the address I received no reply indicating to me that they are out of business. I have viewed the album and apparently it does not appear to contain all issues but only a quantity of representative issues. I will take a look at the "Steiner" pages because the only other alternative I have been able to identify is rather expensive (German pages alone would cost approximately $180.00 plus an additional $60.00 for the album. I would prefer to put my resources into the stamps themselves. But again, I truly appreciate your and the other respondent's assistance. |

Steiner pages should work well for your project, actually. The wartime and occupation issues are all on their own pages. If you want to just collect German occupation of Yugoslavia, for example, the pages for those issues have only those issues on them. You won't have to worry about non-pertinent issues being on the same pages, and you can decide what kind of paper and what binder to store them in. The only real drawback is that there are no illustrations or catalog numbers, but it's a tradeoff for the cost and flexibility. You could create your own title and informational pages for different areas and I think it would make a great looking album! |
