Vance Auctions, is one of the deep pocket buyers at this auction. Everything in Vance's Auctions are company owned. So everything has a reserve. That is why they don't publish a prices realized list. Maresch is all unreserved. Vance buys here and then breaks it down and re-sells it.
Thanks for this info. I have always been frustrated as to why I have to wait a week for Vance to let me know if any of my bids actually win.
I have bid on his stuff on SAN and had it show I was the high bidder, then a week later they say I was tied or outbid by someone else.
BUT. I bought the exact stamp from a contact three weeks after he said I was outbid. The guy I bought it from said he paid less than my bid but won the auction. WEIRD. I really think these things are manipulated and are NOT transparent. I ended up getting the stamp for my original bid price. The seller made a few bucks.
I don't understand why these auctions can't give results in real time.
I also did not know that they had a reserve until reading this thread.
Heck, I have bought homes and collector cars at auction for much higher prices and I always know instantly if I won or lost on the spot. Funny, you can call for bid updates right up till they close but then they take a week to let you know the result.
I guess they are deciding if they really want to sell the stamp or not. Should not be allowed without disclosure.
Thanks for opening my eyes.
