My favourite auction is Weeda Stamps. I can bid online in realtime and watch to see how the price rises. Every time someone bids on an item within three minutes of the auction closing, the final clock resets to 3 minutes. This prevents sniping. It can take a few hours but soon everyone is satisfied with the price they are willing to pay and you know instantly if you have won. I do most of my auction purchasing from them.

If anyone knows of another online stamp auction with a similar format, please let me know.

Both Maresch and Vance have always been nice to me and completely fair in dealing. Their business models are a bit different. You can imagine that 6000 lots ending at once is a lot of work for Vance and his staff to tabulate, invoice, package, mail etc., and that is mainly why one should be patient for a few days after his auctions.

I don't know if it's still the case, but Vance used to publish a prices realized list, but only made it available by subscription.

Even still, in their terms, they're very clear - they reserve the right to cancel lots if bidding doesn't reach a "reasonable level" - essentially, an unstated reserve.

I haven't bought anything from them lately, but I used to regularly, and I've never had any issues - even when I've had to return a lot that wasn't as described.

I went last nite for the 6:30 Third Session which
had GB, Commonwealth and WW and have to say I was surprised
at the high prices realized for many items.
Quite a few went over the estimate or even catalogue.
One item that blew me away was lot 1594 Burma 1-18
blocks of 4. Scott catalog $7680+ went for $10,000.

This has been only my second time and I didn't bid
on anything.
Maybe next time when I get the hang of it.

And as was mentioned previously , this Mr. Vance was the main bidder
and I would say he won at least half of the lots during
the time I was there.
