Hello All,
I've come across this French military postal card from 1916 during World War I. It's from someone by the name of Houssay at Hopital Benevole, St.-Pierre-des-Corps which was near Tours. During that period there was an aviation school near the town and aviation is one of the words in the receiver's address. I can't fully read the full address aside from "aviation", Monsieur Houssay and M. Moselle. Moselle is a French department. Can anyone read the address and message and determine if this postal card indeed has something to do with aviation?
Thanks, Will

I don't speak or read French, but I see Toul as the destination city (which lies in the Moselle department). I read in Wikipedia that Toul was the base of U.S. air operations during World War I. Now that was in 1917-1918, but an assumption can be made that Toul supported French air operations in 1916, and then turned over to the U.S. later. I think there is a very good chance this postal card is related to French aviation during the war.

Robert

Thanks for that information Robert! It's a step in the right direction! It will be interesting to find out what the message is about. The handwriting is too rough to have a go at an online translator.

I can read French. It seems that is a family letter from a father to his son (Maurice) serving on an aviation unit, or premise, in Place de Toul.

It is addressed to

Monsieur Houssay
Aviation Parc No. 6
Place de Toul

During the first world war in France, an aviation park was a base for the air service where they had flight schools, trained mechanics, trained ground personnel, stored materiel, etc. This particular card seems to be addressed to a civilian at one of these bases. If he were a soldier, you would expect to see him addressed with his rank, not simply Mister.

Thanks for the help Cursus and Kimo. It's nice to know the card has a connection to early military aviation.
