I recently acquired a Wyon medal which was used as the model for Queen Victoria in the penny black.

Rather than keeping it in some coin slab, I would like to see if it can be mounted in my stamp album. The medal is 49mm in diameter and 2-3 mmm in thickness.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you all would have on how to do this.

For those who are curious, this is a photo of the medal:

best,

Larry

I know something that might work. A long time ago I was involved as a media technician. Sort of like a stage technician for business meetings. We sometimes had to project 35mm slides from presenters.(pre powerpoint technology) When we got the slides before the meeting they usually came in polypropylene sleeves. If you cut out one of the squares and placed the medal in it. Then mounted the plastic square to the page. You would have to search for a company that sells only one instead of a pack of 25. Might be even good for stamp storage too. A picture of what I am talking about can be found here:

I use round, plastic two-piece coin/medallion holders for use in this circumstance. I have several coins and medallions in one of my exhibits and use the holders for showing them. When I have the pages in their binders, I put a heavy piece of cardboard (not corrugated) on both sides of the page to keep the coin/medallion from damaging the adjacent pages.

You should be able to find such holders at most hobby/coin supply dealers. Hobby Lobby may have them in their stamp and coin display. I got mine from Golden Valley in Minnesota.

Larry, Greetings:

I would use one solid piece of cardboard with a suitable cut-out to fit the coin and/or coin flip.

If you use a 2-pocket page (2x 5*7" or 2x 4*9 pockets), you can use the 2nd pocket for explanatory notes, etc.

Just make sure to use the same cardboard stiffener in both pockets to protect the adjacent pages.

I have available a single holder for a coin that might work for you. If interested send me an email. Your cost would be in the $1.00 range.
