Hi guys...Just something to think about...In the 1970's they created (as today to) large stamps..Below is an average size envelope used to mail a letter..BUT, if mailed in Canada in 1973, you would place one stamp...BUT...BUT...If you mailed it to say England, you would have to place 3 or 4 stamps that you had in your possession...Take a look at the effect it has on that envelope...Is there enough room to write the address of a person you are sending it to...Ya, I know, WERT and his out of the box thinking, but, really...!

PERSONALLY, I DON'T LIKE BIG STAMPS...

Hi Wert, glad to see you're back on Canadian stamps. I have no problems with big stamps, but I also have no trouble with small ones. As a matter of fact, one of my all time favorite stamps is the Canadian Titanic stamp! And you know what? When one gets a bit older, the bigger ones are easier to see! If I may, let me make a suggestion. Use a larger size envelope! That has another advantage, you can put the stamp away from the edges and the stamp(s) won't tear up so bad in that automated equipment they use nowadays.

Peter

Peter my friend, you are a smart man..Now that I got you thinking, I wonder if Canada Post said, you know what, lets invest some of our money into envelope companies, and as you said, go out and buy a bigger envelope...Hmmm...Makes you think, eh..??...haha.

I agree with you.

I used one of last year's (US) Civil War Stamps on a 6.75" envelope awhile ago and it took so much of the envelope, by the time I wrote an address (and stamped my return address in the corner) the entire envelope was used (and that only needed a single stamp, as was not nearly as large as the Canadian stamp you scanned).

Let's face it, CP and the USPS (and probably other international postal authorities) figure that large stamps are meant to collect and not use for postage. Although they certainly can be used for postage, the postal authorities make it intentionally difficult to do so.

When it comes to commemorative stamps, the stamp issuing authorities try to get them into collectors hands as it means virtually clear profit for the post office since it isn't being used to process a piece of mail through the system.

Here is a recent 1$ stamp I received. (There was another one similar on the front of the envelope, with the address)

Gilles le timbre - It looks like the stamp at position 13 (Column 3 Row 3) has missing purple colour in the right frame directly under the point of the red arrow on my copy of your stamps. It appears to be white instead of purple through part of the frame.

You may also want to check for other known EFOs such as:
doubling of "CANADA",
doubled "1",
"white spots in CANADA"
and
connected "CA" of "CANADA".
