Used two commems to meet the 5c surface rate. Very thoughtful of the sender. It would have been easier to just slap on a 5c Prexie!

Note that the letter was written on Wednesday Sept. 25, but was not mailed until Thursday Oct.3. Interesting that it took so long, especially in a large media corporation.
It is true that Oct 1st was the announcement of the verdicts in the Nuremberg Trials and the 2nd was the sentencing, but it seems unlikely that that was the reason for the delay.

One of the most prized pieces in my collection is a picture postcard of my Mom's brother that died during the depression when he was 12 years old. My mom grew up very poor. The picture has him on a tricycle that his dad made from spare parts and junk he got from the town dump. It is the only picture of him. When I found it years ago my Mom was very surprised as she did not know any pictures of him existed. I don't know how it came to be. I will post a picture of it when I catch up to my computer Friday night.

Hi and thanks for all the nice comments. Yes, it is a lovely Piece to have and a nice insight into my Dad as a Boy. His interests in Art and old things neeve left him. Ended up being an archaeologist.

It's a great letter and keepsake. So glad you still have it and it didn't disappear over time. Indeed, one cannot imagine seeing such a personal letter in these times.

Here is my postcard with a family connection. The young man is my Mom's brother. My Grandma was pregnant with my Mom when this was taken. They were very poor and this was during the depression. The tricycle was homebuilt with scrap and junk parts that my Mom's Dad found at the town dump. This is the only picture known of my Mom's brother. He died of scarlet fever at 12 years old.
