I'm sure this topic has been covered, but the search field is yielding no returns. So here goes.
I have decided as well as US to collect Canadian stamps. The huge lots of US stamps that I buy have to have at least 5% Canada stamps mixed in. I don't know how you can confuse a US stamp with another, but it is what it is. Now I find I have boxes of Canadian stamps. Anyway, here's the dilemna.
I do NOT want to buy another set of binders. Some of the prices are just astronomical. I would like to create my own sheets with pictures (Part of my functions at work are serving as a pre-press digital graphics artist). I need to find the size of Canada's stamps so I can make the bounding boxes appropriate in size. The pictures of the stamps that I would place in there are not accurately 100%, so I can't use those. I've browsed the internet for hours trying to find this out but can't come up with anything helpful.
Since I can get all the materials at work and have the software as well there, it keeps my costs to an absolute minimum of zero. I could go to one sight and buy the pages with pictures, but then I'm up to $100+.
Anyone have any help on this for me?

If you get all the materials at work and use them for personal business, then that is unethical at least and at the worst may be considered theft. If you use the software at work, then whether you use it on your own time or on the company's time becomes important. Sorry to be so harsh, but I think I read your message correctly.

Your level of ethics is refreshing, but I should've told you it's my company!! The company was given to me by my father last year! |

This page does not have sizes but it does have nice images of every Canadian stamp that you could use in creating your album. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/...30101_e.htmlAs well, you might be able to find a set of just pages for Canada on ebay for cheap. Sorry I couldn't be much help. And since I have no idea what your work environment is, I am not going to pass judgement on your plans. None of my business. |

Try acquiring one stamp in a set to use as a template for others. I draw my own pages (I don't include pics), but I find that most stamps issued tend to be the same size. Some just need the horizontal and vertical dimensions reversed. Once in a while one pops up that is totally different and I need to wait upon drawing that page until I can get a measurable example.
Take a look at the link in Tom Swift's post and you will see that so many of the stamps are the same size.
Another option may be to look at commercially manufactured mounts. You may be able to extract the needed dimensions from them.

I've got a couple software solutions that will measure the dimensions for you, if you can find scans with a known ppi. |

I have been creating my own pages for 30+ years and I believe that Canadian stamps come in multiple sizes and I doubt that there are many standard sizes you could adhere to. |

It does not indicate where you are dpoul34, but another way to measure would be to become a member of the APS and get their circuit books for Canada. That way you get an almost infinite supply of stamps to measure!

I'm in Massachusetts and you've all provided some great information. I ended up purchasing a full set of page templates from someone online, so I'll have the boxes from 1851 to present. I'm going to take it one step further however and add the individual pictures of each stamp in the boxes.
I know it's overkill but when work is quiet I need things to do. Still not sure if I'll print on white or manila colored 100# tag, but I'm a week away from that anyhow. I'm also still knee deep in the US part of collecting and learning about things as I go along, but it's been a lot of fun and very educational up to this point.
And the plus is I have a forum with decent people who like the same thing and don't mind sharing information. |
