Like some people have a thing about the 13th floor in buildings, I have a thing about the number 666. When I noticed I was on post No. 666, I just had to post something somewhere to get off of it. So It's done.

Do hotels typically have a room 13? the funny part is that they name the 13th floor "14". It's just a ruse.
But good one gettin away from that one.

Anyone ever heard of Triskaidekaphobia? In other words, the fear of the number 13, as in the 13th floor of a building? Interestingly, I had reason to visit a business office in a Boston high rise and was surprised to see one of the few 13th floors I ever saw designated as such on an elevator.

I had to occasionally visit a customer on the 13th floor of the World Trade Center. He moved to a new location on 1 September, 2001. I guess that wasn't such bad luck for him after all.

I had a bidder once buy two things from me on ebay - both winning bids were $6.66. The bidder paid and was happy so no problems otherwise.

I was also in Plymouth, Massachusetts for the this weekend. Some idiots vandalized a number of the historic markers which is a shame and disrespectful. Some of the graffiti was 666 and the ilk.

Side note about Plymouth. They had a replica ship of the Mayflower which was built in 1956 in England and then sailed to Plymouth in 1957. Covers were created to mark the event and you still see them today in dealer's bargain boxes, usually not for much. 140,000 of these covers were created.

For those interested, fear of the number 666 is called Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia. There's a mouthful.

Where I once worked, there was a cafeteria where you could buy your lunch. My favourite lunch came to $6.66, but the cashier always charged me $6.65.
I finally asked her about it and she just said, "Nope, you can't make me say it!"

It's not actually "the number of the beast" it's "the number of a man".

Wikipedia states:

Quote:
Using the same system in Hebrew of generating a number from the letters of a name, Neron Caesar written in Hebrew produces the number 666. Thus, in the Bible, 666 may have been a coded reference to Nero the Roman Emperor from 55 to 68 AD.

..and 13 is actually a lucky number! but that' another thread entirely. Of course I'm not superstitious either.

I was born on Friday the 13th, 13 minutes before midnight. Dead serious.

13s don't scare me none.

And it's my guess that is a huge number in itself!

Contemporary thought regarding the mark, delves into the meaning of the number 6. It is said that the number 7 is related to perfection (you get this impression most strongly in the book of Revelation). The number 6 then is deemd to be an imperfect number. Three sixes then mean an attempt at perfection through imperfect means. Further speculation on the same thread states that this mark is the melding of man and machine (in true science fiction manner), which would be the ultimate abomination (zombies, basically). But I digress.

"Let him who hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." --Rev 13:18.

The Caps and italics are just as in the text. Interesting.
