This came into my possession from work. Not sure what to make of it. It doesn't look like a regular postage stamp from a booklet or one you print at your printer like zazzle or from stamps.com. So did the post office produce this?

Looks like an APC label. I have some alot like that printed at my APC (though not sure if they are identical). |

The USPS is a sponsor for the new movie. My guess would be that is where it originated. |

Smauggie is correct. That is the Spiderman 2 label that the post office sells through their automated machines. Not all post offices have these; my own post office does not have these. I have to go to a big town nearby if I want these!

Boris, you think they issued it in booklet form?
Smauggie, I need to review what an APC label is.
Thanks for the quick feed back. |

Your stamp is Scott #CVP90. (CVP = Computer Vended Postage). Purchased at a USPS Automated Kiosk at select US Post Offices. As stated by others, not all post offices have this label and they are set to run until June 1, 2014 (or before, should the label supplies run out). There is also a companion "Flag" label that is available from those Kiosks for those who prefer not to use Spiderman (i.e. certain business mail, etc.). The "Flag" CVP bears a close resemblance to the 2008 "Flag at Dusk" stamp, as shown at this link: http://linns.com/news/breaking-stam...-stamp-imageBack to the Spiderman promotion, it seems that there will be a mailer that many will receive via direct mail promoting this venture between USPS and Sony Pictures: http://www.news.ruralinfo.net/2014/...roducts.html |

wt1,
I got that cover in the mail last week and keep it. Looks cool and now I have a stamp to go along with it. |

smauggie, just checked out that link and it looks like I have one of those kiosks at my local Publix. I'll check it out after work tomorrow. |

Didn't realize that the Computer labels were listed. I've always tossed 'em in the trash. I don't really consider them to be a real stamp. Even though they signify actual postage. More of a sticky receipt to prove payment. |

How do you collect a stamp that can be printed with pretty much any value on it? Is each value you create another unique Scott number? |

You can just go for the "forever" value, or pick a value of your choice. Many of mine are 17¢ value because that is the cheapest you can get them. ;) |

Quote: How do you collect a stamp that can be printed with pretty much any value on it? Is each value you create another unique Scott number? For computer vended postage (CVP prefix), the Scott Catalog does not differentiate the denomination(s) of the stamps you choose to purchase from the USPS APC Kiosk, as many different denominations are possible. Likewise, the stamps can be purchased in a mini-sheet of up to 10 "stamps" or a minimum of three (3) "stamps" with one label marked "VOID". Collectors must decide for themselves what format they choose to collect. |

Quote: Is each value you create another unique Scott number? There are two relatively small sections of the Scott US Specialized catalog that deal with stamps printed via computer. The first, " Computer Vended Postage", is for stamps that are printed at kiosks in selected post offices. The recent Spiderman stamp (CVP90) is an example. The second, " Personal Computer Postage", is for stamps purchased over the internet at stamps.com. The catalog prefix for stamps in these sections is CVP & 1CVP respectively. As I understand it, a new catalog number is not necessarily assigned for different denominations ... or even for slightly different verbiage on the stamps. For example, CVP31 is listed as a 29-cent stamp. But a footnote explains that it comes in multiple denominations and that the 29-cent is listed because it was the first class rate in effect most of the time while the stamps were being printed. |

There used to be more detail in Scott for the early APC type stamps, but the deleted a bunch of minor lettered listings because it got too complicated (see note under CVP57 about the number of different inscriptions). When they first appeared I was trying to collect the different inscription codes, but it became too expensive/too difficult (as it wasn't even clear what all the different varieties were and you had to jump through a bunch of non-obvious screen option hoops to create many of them), so I gave up. |

um...Yeah, there's no way Im going down the APC/CVP road. Besides it seems that something is lost. Engraved stamps ahve an artistic nature to them. I'm not even really thrilled with the modern PSA stamps. I save them, but dont know If I'll ever do anything with them. the only stamps I've cataloged are all water activated. meh... that's just me though. |
