Unitrade 579 Normal Stamp With Medallion

I just read some old posts to do with the 579 medallion issue. I contend that the stamp without the medallion is the normal stamp, and the one with the medallion is the variety. Look in the Canada Post archive and you will see that their entry is without the medallion. Why would they archive an error?
