This may be found in a World version of Sanabria Airl Mail Cataloges. I'm at work currently and cannot check my cataloge! It appears it may be a experimental, semi-offical issue! |

I don't have the Sanabria Air Mail, if you are able to look it up and confirm your thoughts I'd appreciate it. I wondered if it was a private issue from a company working Syria - Lebanon, rather than a national issue from either country. Thank you for your effort, I'd better let you get back to work! |

Nice find. I have the 1966 Sanabria catalog (always with me in .PDF format) and it is not listed under either Lebanon or Syria. It maybe a tax/revenue issue of some sort, i.e. Civil Aviation. |

Usually with postage stamps, they say "postage" somewhere (Postes/Poste Arianne). Seems more like a cinderella stamp to me. |

Thanks for looking into this, I did consider asking this question in the context of a cinderella. Either way, I find that a bit of mystery adds some appeal to this stamp. Found it tucked away in an album given to me by a friend at work. |

It appears to be some sort of private air flight label from the 1930's to the early 1940's between Syria and Lebanon.
I think "Aviation Civile" is in French. Civil aviation is anything that is related to the aviation non-military. This therefore includes civil transport of passengers and goods.
It may be associated with the Organization of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO English International Civil Aviation Organization: ICAO) is an international organization which depends on the United Nations. It is a specialized agency of the UN formed in April of 1944.
It also may be an Airport tax stamp. Perhaps you'll find in in a revenue catalogue.

I'm sorry TIMM I'll have to disagree on the era in which it comes from.
From what I see this is Post WW I while this region was under French mandate. Likely this is around 1925 when the Hatay Province was under French Mandate. The style of aircraft also matches the period I'm refering too. |

Hatay Province being in southern Turkey on the Syrian boarder probably had nothing to do with Syria-Lebanon flights or the French stationed there.
The style of airplane does match those of the late 1920's and early 1930's, but I doubt a civilian flight from Syria to Lebanon had access to the "Modern Aircraft" of the times. I still think my assessment is correct. |

After WW I Hatay was a part of Grand Lebanon-Syria until 1936 when it gain a brief independence before rejoining Turkey!
If you look on the map on the stamp 3 stops are located in Hatay region! |
