These are commonly called Horizon labels in the UK after the computer system involved. The blanks are printed with information of the service required. The "AAX" refers to the Airsure service. The lower case "r" after ROYAL MAIL also refers to Airsure. The numbers after POSTAGE PAID UK are VAT codes (value added tax) and the "5" means the VAT is zero rated (no tax).
The "A" is normal airmail and the lower case "h" means the international airmail service and ,again, the "5" means zero Value Added Tax.
I suspect the AAX would be the more "uncommon" one.
They would be a whole lot nicer if Royal mail could arrange the overprints so as not to obscure the Queen's head. Letter code slightly smaller and moved to top left corner. The rest reduced in height slightly and positioned across the shoulders. Even better, why not design the whole thing as a CDS cancel. Then RM would have a look alike stamp label that looked like a stamp. With every cancel a 'socked on the nose'. My 2 cents.
