I just couldn't resist the corner card. I don't even collect this kind of material really. The price was right I guess ($2-3 I think).

The addressee was a merchant in Society Hill, SC, Mr. Augustus MacNiel Sompayrac (1854-1937).

I don't suppose there is any easy way to date the cover other than being from 1873-79. There is no received cancel (as those weren't required until 1879). If anyone has any insights into dating the cover I would love to hear them.

Thanks.

Hey! I remember you bidding on that one. I had noticed it but I was saving my money for a DPO that I needed.

For the record pjsstamps and I recently attended a meeting of the Minnesota Postal History Society, which held a nice auction at the meeting.

I wish I had kept up on that RFD cover. On the other hand, I love my new "Stamp Collector" valise.

Apparently this image is from the Sompayrac General Store. It looks like the store has been historically preserved.

Here is a webpage with the pictures and information: http://www.sciway.net/sc-photos/dar...l-store.html
