Arab Sheik Alert, based on a value per gm basis, the British Guiana 1 cent magenta is the most expensive art ever to be auctioned. http://www.stampsareart.com/paper-2...a-1c-magenta

Maybe Russian oligarch alert? We have a sweepstake running, and my guess is $8.5 million hammer price.

Given the choice, and the cash, I would buy the Cezanne.

I have read that there are other unique and one of a kind stamps around, but they do not get as high a price in auction because they are not as well known and they are not as popular as this stamp.

Arab Shiek Alert refers to any one that is so "filthy rich that I don't care what I spend for what makes me happy, which includes a full time brothel of prostitutes and one of a kind stamps and art" - an Arab bought the Cezanne, and I would be willing to wager will buy the Guiana

I now stand corrected :-( There is a small correction to my calculations.

The Britsih Guiana 1 cent magenta is actually worth $600 billion per kilo :-) This forum won' let me post the link, which points to an australian stamp web site. You can find the link to the article and calculations at the very bottom of my post at http://www.stampsareart.com/paper-2...a-1c-magenta.
