Hello, I am new to the forums here and was hoping to get some help in identifying a stamp I have. I've done a great deal of searching and have even been told it's Russian. But that has been unsuccessful for me. Has anyone ever run across this stamp?
It is an "Army Of the North" issue, and, it is Russian. You will find it in the back of the catalogue for that country behind the occupation issues. It is a Scott #5 issued in 1919.
The information Bujutsu provided is correct -- had the stamp been genuine. This rather common stamp was heavily forged, and your stamp is a forgery. In the genuine stamp, the cross in the middle is very clear and well-formed with perpendicular lines. In addition, in the genuine stamp, there are unfilled circles on both sides of "OKCA". There are other differences as well.
I picked these two up today in a lot at an estate auction, and remembered this post. Can I assume, judging from their differences, that the one on the left is genuine and the one on the right is a forgery?
