Hi, I envy you for this purchase. These stamps have a higher value in the obliterated state. MNH stamps have a small quota but there are a lot of varieties of paper, color or perforation with a much higher quota. What sheets are there? american, british or german print?

Administration Millitary of Germany is terrible English. Originally, it was AMGOT: "Allied Military Government for Occupied Territories." It existed not just in Germany, but also in Austria, parts of Italy and Japan. It was also proposed for certain parts of France, but would have infuriated Charles de Gaulle and Roosevelt did not push ahead.
Later, AMGOT was shortened to AMG for "Allied Military Government."
You are correct that these stamps were issued in the parts of Germany administered by the AMG. |

It wasn't a "government" as such. In Germany, each of the Allies had a Military Governor for its Zone - initially Eisenhower for the US, Montgomery for Britain etc. |

I think you should understand the word government more as the act of "administration" and not as a council of ministers.
The British used "Military Administration" in the occupied former colonies in East Africa and the Mediterranean. |

Thanks cupram! A specialist collector once told me, "the best place to find varieties is in your own material." |

NSK The French did object to a long term administration but it did exist briefly. Two sets of AMG stamps were issued for France. I don't believe any AMG stamps were issued for Japan though the occupation government lasted much longer there. These are Scott # 2N1-2N20. |

According to Wikipedia, Roosevelt wanted it, but his staff advised against it. The AMGOT was never implemented in France. |

When exactly did it exist? Why do you think two sets of stamps (presumably the Arc de Triomphe issues) were issued by an AMG? |
