Let's try to relaunch this topic
It's a good and informative subject so show them stamps

Got some really nice examples to start off

This very cool stamp was issued in the Dutch Antilles (1961) and designed by Oscar Ravelo Nadal (i'm dutch myself btw) The text in the bottom left corner says it all, it reads :
First salute to the Flag of the United States of Amerika (by a foreign country) at Fort Orange St. Eustatius on the 16th of november 1776 ! Fort Orange was a Military outpost of the Dutch Empire in the Antilles. (then known as the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands)

This stamp printed and engraved by Ir. J.L. Volders. in 1976
Issued in Surinam which was at that time part of the Netherlands.
This stamp series was issues in remembrance of the "Peace of Breda"in 1667.
In fact it is in this peace treaty between the UK and The Netherlands that New Amsterdam (former New York) was returned to the English, as part of the deal the Dutch would get the sugar plantations in Surinam in return (OMG) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treat...Breda_(1667)
The stamp depicts the Castle of Breda where the treaty was signed on 31 july 1667.

Hello, I agree, there are probably numerous stamps that depict historical events of importance to very many people, so I'm contributing one for the United Nations. The institution was founded in 1945, i.e. it will celebrate 70 years this fall. France issued this airmail stamp for Haute-Volta (Burkina Faso since 1960) for the 25th anniversary of the UN.

I like the celebrate the century stamps, many historical items. I put the 50s here because who can't remember 1957 Chevy, Rock N Roll, Drive in Movies, The space race and I Love Lucy. Well maybe not the most historical but the other stamps depict many historical important things, I would let you discover yourself.

On the 13th and 14th of February, 1945, 70 years ago today, the city of Dresden was destroyed by allied bombing. The Frauenkirche was turned into a pile of rubble - miraculously Martin Luther remained standing. The ruins became a symbol of death and destruction. After the fall of the Berlin wall an initiative to rebuild the church was founded. With modern techniques but according to the original plans, the Frauenkirche was rebuilt. Donations from all over the world financed the work. Today the Frauenkirche is a symbol of reconstruction and reconciliation. Stamp issued for the consecration in October, 2005. (The dark spots in the new building are original stones that survived the heat of incendiary bombs.)

On the 14th of February 1876, Alexander Graham Bell filed for a patent on his apparatus for transmitting sound and some weeks later he was able to transmit several words.

Bell was familiar with the apparatus constructed earlier (1860) by Johann Philipp Reis, which he called "Telefon", but it was Bell to whom the valuable patent was granted.

Galileo Galilei was born on the 15th of February 1564 in Italy. He is perhaps best known for his studies of the night skies with his improved telescope which made him recognize that the Earth revolves around the Sun and not the other way around. The Church held to the idea of Geocentricity and considered the idea of Heliocentricity to be heresy. Galileo was put before the inquisition (Painting by Cristano Banti, 1857) and soon realized that he would risk his life if he stuck to his idea. He rescined, and was granted house arrest for the rest of his life. There he continued his research and writing until his death in 1642).

On the 16th of February, 1923, Howard Carter and associates opened the tomb of Tutankhamen (which had been located the year before in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt).

Of all the treasures of the Pharaohs, Tut's golden mask is perhaps the most famous and has been seen at exhibits the world over. Only a few weeks ago news spread such as the following headline taken from England's Telegraph
"King Tut's beard 'hastily glued back on with epoxy' Curators fear irreversible damage has been done to priceless burial mask of Tutankhamen, the ancient Egyptian boy king"

Joint issue of Egypt and China

On the 17th of February 1600 Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake in Rome. He was a philosopher, an astronomer who believed in heliocentricity, a mathematician and much more. But above all, he didn't agree with much of the church's teachings at the time, and said so. He traveled throughout Europe for many years, presenting his theories before being put before the inquisition and imprisoned. After many years as a prisoner he still believed in his ideas and accepted his fate: "I await your sentence with less fear than you pass it. The time will come when all will see what I see." A large statute stands in the Campo dé Fiori in Rome, marking the spot of his execution.

The Statue of Liberty is probably one of the most well-known figures in the world. Most people don't know that her design was patented by her creator, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi of France: on the 18th of February 1879. At first, parts of her were shown at international Expos such as in Paris, 1878. The costs of production, transport and setting her up on a proper pedestal were daunting and here Joseph Pulitzer organized a huge campaign for donations, finally making it possible, in 1886, for her to stand where she now is. Her pedestal is not spherical as suggested in the lilac-colored semipostal by France. In this case the artist has put in the Globe, the whole world - it is a stamp in support of refugees, issued shortly after the 2nd world war. The broken chain at Liberty's left foot symbolizes the end of slavery.
