Cut cancels are pretty common on these issues and actually have their own prices noted with each of them which are considerably lower than ones without unfortunately.

Those don't bother me anywhere near like the holes in mine in the pics I posted though :(

Thanks Mike33; My intention is to sell these in the near future. How would I go about selling them locally? I don't want to get ripped off and don't know what a fair price for the lot would be. Browsing these forums and having these stamps has sparked an interest in collecting stamps in me. I have a lot of questions, but I'm starting to feel like I'm bugging you guys. I'm mainly a Coin & Hot Wheels collector, but I've come across many stamps. I should probably start paying attention to them! LoL

Cpuwhiz, are the stamps themselves stained ? If they are it could be foxing and I would get them out of those plastic sleeves. The ones you show are missing from most US collections as most high values from their respective sets are.

Nice group.

stallzer - the "stained" stamps are that way from the "glue" on the back of them. I placed them in these sleeves today for photo purposes. Don't have a stamp album yet.

The $5000 1957 is far and away the best stamp in the group. Even with a cut cancel it catalogs $1000. The rest of the stamps combined probably catalog about another $1000. The best way to sell them is probably ebay, sell the one stamp by itself and the rest as either a separate lot or sell all the high values individually and the low values as a lot.
All high values come with either one or two straight edges, so that has no effect on value.

That's great to know - so they came in strips 2 wide?

They were issued in a vertical format of four stamps, with a label on the perforated left side. The top stamp had a straight edge on top and right, and the bottom stamp had one on the bottom and right. The two in the middle had 3 perforated edges and straight on the right.

Probably a result of whatever was used to paste the stamps to the document. All documentary reds starting with a face value of $30 and up were issued without gum(also stock transfer and silver tax). So almost anything might have been used to paste them down.

So it would be safe to say original adhesive? If this is so then it should not affect the value?

Thanks

No, it will definitely affect the value. Still, they are some moderately tough stamps, so someone will want them, depending on the price.

I would place them for sale on the forum here, but being that I'm a new member I'll have to earn it first. I've learned much already, so I'd like to thank all of you.

Thanks for that info Rev. I'm placing these stamps on the bay and ask for offers on them. Hoping I can help someone complete their set. Thanks for your help. I'll be back soon with more questions since I've still got many stamps to go through. I think I'll start collecting air mail and special delivery stamps. Love the way they look.

Those stamps harken back to the day when rich people paid high taxes. Imagine how the federal deficit would improve if they were still using those high value green stock transfer stamps!
