I was cataloguing some Korean stamps recently and found this corner cut square among the stamps.

I can't seem to find it in any of my catalogues and I am hoping someone will be able to provide year of issue and any other info available.

It would probably be in a specialized Kowean catalogue under Postal Stationery, probably envelopes. Having the postmark still on piece would make it easier for the rough year but not always available I suppose.

Nice design though, happy.

Unfortunately what is shown is all that I have.
Do the coloured characters on the stamp have any 'meaning'?
My guess is that it is from the 1980's based on it's value.

It looks like the English letters / words: Ah Oh, along with a mountain and a tree.
South Korea so maybe that is what they say when they have an Oh Oh moment?

Perhaps, I would like to know when that moment was :-) I was thinking that upper characters represented male with sun and mountain. The lower characters with the tree representing female. Maybe a family planning type stamp.

I'm not that strong on Korea, but this looks like it was cut from the New Year's postal card issued in 1993, according to my old version of the KPC, Korean Postage Stamp Catalog.

Hope that's helpful!

Thanks for that information. Is there a catalogue number that can be referenced? Is there an illustration you can post?

A correction: It's too late to edit my post (looks like I missed the 24-hour window by 45 min), but that postcard was issued in 1992 for New Years 1993.

Here's the relevant section from an old (2002) KPC catalog:

I can't read Korean, but I think the item in question is NPC 88 or NPC 89.

Here's the cover of that catalog:

Thanks Philatarium
Definitely one of the two catalogue numbers you mention.
My cut square is too thin to be from the card so whichever number represents the envelope would be the actual number.
Regards
Randy
