Interesting...one could construct a "Peter Piper" type phrase from this.
Also, you bring to mind the revelation of last summer, when public health officials told us that in public swimming pools our eyes are irritated and burned not by the chlorine, but by the levels of urine in the water. |

Yikes!
Back in my college days we used to say that the local Brewers didn't sell beer, they rented it out. |

Manneken Pis has a special meaning for me! Back when I was a child, my parents took me to Brussels on vacation. Somewhere there still is a photo of me drinking from the fountain!

This little guy seems to be popular on postcards. A nice slogan cancel from 1973. (Sugar Beets) SUGAR SOURCE OF ENERGY |

bookbndrbob: oh, dear, a definitive answer ... killjoy!
Ciletaliph: I am gathering examples and, at some point, hope to chrono-delimit The Golden Age of European Postal Slogans. That sugar beet slogan is distinctive.

Following-up on Sitting Bull ( https://goscf.com/t/38392#409206 ) ... It looks to me like they actually dressed the statue as an American MP - as opposed to pasting one image onto another - but, if you want to decide for yourself, I'll pass you a 1200 dpi scan. Of further interest is the juxtaposition of the slogan cancel ( use the street name & number in the address) - which looks like it was applied randomly & mechanically - with that, uh, abbreviated address. Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |

Jogil asked, quite a while ago if the words piscine or piscina had anything to do with the act of urination. Quite simply, they don't. They both derive, along with many words in English from the word piscis, which is Latin for fish. Think of the zodiac sign pisces |

This isn't a philatelic contribution to the thread, but there's a chain of Belgian waffle shops in Japan called Manneken, and Manneken Pis is in their logo. I found it amusing. |

One of a handful of WW1 Propaganda post cards from NAPEX. "Belgium Defends Itself by Deluge" ... indeed! The card is signed / credited to La Guerre Sociale: Quote:https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_...ciale_(1906)The Social War (1906-1916) is an anti-militarist newspaper founded by Gustave Hervé , Miguel Almereyda and Eugène Merle , which brings together, at the beginning, revolutionary socialists and anarchists on a libertarian communist line. It promotes a strategy of "revolutionary concentration" centered on "insurrectional" antimilitarism. Gustave Hervé founded the weekly La Guerre Social on December 19, 1906. It becomes the great antimilitarist newspaper of the Belle Epoque, drawing 50,000 copies. OTOH, ain't got no clues about these guys: Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |
