Scott # 89iii - Different Sized Numerals.

Hi guys...Take a look at this Scott # 89iii stamp...Look at the difference in the number "1"...maybe it is normal, check for me if you have a copy of it..the right numeral looks skinnier that the left numeral....Thanks guys.

Looks like a difference to me in the 1's.

The bottom to the right also has ink pulls upwards that include into and through the right numeral box.

Is that a hairline crack on the lower left corner?

Can you scan at 600dpi and reduce a bit possibly to clear up the scan?

By the way, is #89iii showing this error or variety in the Unitrade catalogue now? Mine, a 2005 admittedly, shows a different colour for 89iii.

Ok Partime...I see what you are getting at..Crack in the plate...I thought they were referring to a tear in the stamp..I apologize..

Now the numerals is what I am concerned with...any thoughts guys..??

Yep, normal for the issue.

I'm the first to admit that this is really "flyspecking" and probably means nothing whatsoever, but in addition to the numeral "1" I had wondered if the box containing that numeral was of a slightly different size ... so this is what I found (using wert's scan) ... an ever so slight variance in box width:



But then I did the same thing (using puzzler's scan) and there is no variance in box width:



Maybe it has to do with my measurements being off a bit or maybe it has do with the scans not being exactly the same size or resolution ... but I do find it interesting.

wt1...I like your "flyspecking" ability, so I took my program that is deadly accurate and there is a difference as you can see from my picture below.

When I scan a stamp that is not exactly set straight on my scanner, and then straighten it afterwards with software, the stamp skews somewhat and distorts.

It makes sense. I seem to recall from the old days of copiers, the salespeople told me that the duplicated image is ever so slightly changed from the original (so slightly where most wouldn't notice the difference) but the change is in the system so as to thwart counterfeiting and the like.
