I got this from an on-paper bag. Can anyone elucidate upon it. It is stamped US with a 2c US (with a perfin) and a 1/2 Brit Stamp. The US 2c has a date of Mar 1 with a New York cancellation. And the brit stamp has a London cancellation with a date of march 10. dirty, dirty picture.

The GB stamp has been placed on top of the US postmark so perhaps the addition was to pay for re-directing. As it is a piece it does not include any other additions or information that might show the whole story.

I think the postage rate would have been 5 cents to London? Maybe postage due came into play here...or perhaps there were more stamps to the left of the GB... all unknown elements to confuse and confound us more than a hundred years afterwards
