When I first saw this stamp in a large lot at Regency Stamp Auction ,I thought it was the rare red brown variety which is listed in Scott Catalog as PR3a which catalog at $240.00 . But checking it at home to a regular PR3 its easy to see that it is a forgery .

Could you point out why you think the 2k. Large Shield is a forgery.

The 1st. stamp you show is the earlier issued Small Shield,

it is not a large shield ,both are the small shield .The "2" of 2Kreuzer is much thinner on the large shield . Also the large shield is more rectangle and not square as the small shield. Thanks for your question .

Hiya Paul!

I wonder if Scott has changed the numbering on this series.

My limited interest in worldwide extends mostly to about 1950, and my old Scott catalog from 1973 agrees that the normal 2kr is #PR3, as you've posted. (And the value for a genuine #PR3a was $200.00 in 1973.)

An online search finds a few of the 2kr listed now in auctions as #PR2, and the 4kr as #PR3 and Michel #Z3.
