I've had this for awhile and I haven't been able to figure out some of the drawings (the first row in particular stops me) Hopefully some of the brilliant minds here will be able to "transcribe" the first page of this letter

I have difficulty with the first row too.
My take on row 7:
For things of that kind, or ought to be. |

My guess: Line 1: Yew c-awl me up four a pick-t pitcher card. (She asked him to send her a post card or maybe a picture letter.)
Line 2: Barrel writes o a b in dk (By all rights ought to be indicate ???)
Line 6: Yew r two big a lady to car-e (You are too big a lady to care)
Anyone else?

Really good, kehess! I had "awl" of line 1 except the "pick-t-pitcher" part. |

Tail end of 1st line & start of 2nd could be pick+t+ewer+postcard ... i.e., picture postcard. |

so far.......
You call me up for a picture postcard,...............................................................
, as he can't draw everything and has to make his letters conform to his pictures.
Besides, you are too big a lady to care for things of that kind, or ought to be.
If you are not I must try to please you, even if it makes me go mad as it is pretty sure to do.
you are improving in writing, but you ought to be able to spread out your news more, so as to make your letters longer.
You will perceive a great improvement in my drawings, which is due to the opening of an art gallery where....
One phrase to crack.
Terry PS. How about showing us page 2, please? |

One small quibble ... I think it should be "call upon me" rather than "call me up". No difference in meaning or intent though. |

I'm not so sure that the characters following the 2 of diamonds are "ed" ... looks almost like "8d" to me. Especially after comparing it to other "e"s in the letter. |
