Have to admit that "deuced" does seem to make the most sense when examined in the context of what follows.

Had to go to the dictionary for "deuced". Don't recall deuce being used as a verb myself, but perhaps it was more common in an earlier era. Basically I think it means "confounded" or "frustrated" ... which seems to fit fairly well with the words that follow. Of course, one can't be certain without decoding the rest of the "rebus".

Wow! Thanks everyone for your help - I knew you were all brilliant

Here's the second page - no Rebus writing, but quite "picturesque" none the less. Unfortunately this is the only letter of this type I have.

Hi
Deuce can also mean the devil, it originates from an old gamblers expression, when the two card was called the deuce card, which meant the devil's card.

I'm thinking the last image in line 2 is a pulley , not a wheel.

In line 3 the word " on " is written like it was stitched. Therefore I believe the last symbol is a doily . You young folks can Google that term.

2nd line: "Beryl writes letters by sign language and Pauley..."

Bradwell Institute taught, and still teaches, sign language.

"Pauley" is represented by a pulley.

Oh, forgot to add...

"Pauley is deuced shaky on a game", if the symbol is the inlaid top of a game table.

Third line , 2nd symbol. Try "dominated" Diamonds + 8d ? And I think the on is 2 words. Such as shaking on , stitching on , trembling on , etc.
