This isn't mine, but was posted on USPS Twitter today from a person thanking the USPS for the prompt delivery of this piece from Las Vegas, NV to Germany -- in just four (4) days time.

What intrigued me more than the efficient delivery was the fact that the "old fashioned" machine cancel was used on a Global Forever Stamp from Las Vegas, NV on July 21, 2014. You don't see those machine cancels very often anymore, and rarely from a city such as Las Vegas, so I thought I'd post it:

I wonder how many other machine cancels like this are still in use nationwide?

It's refreshing to see one of these now and then.

Spray-on cancels have ruined the appeal of collecting stamps from mail, and I think they deter potential new collectors from starting.

Nice to see readable cancels and colourful stamps.

Added value.

I think readable cancels of any sort just need the application of thoughtful application of stamps and design of the cover / envelope to make them attractive to collectors.

I've noticed that the postcards I get from a show promoter have the circular date postmark and cancel rather than the spray-on. They are consistent across his mailings, but it's not the post office he uses, because I receive other mail processed through that post office (at least, postmarked from the same city/processing center) and those are all spray-on.

The next time I run into him I'll ask him what he does.
