Interesting cancels used on this cover, on an Interior 6 cent stamp, and on a 6 cent American bank note. The 1883 and the 1886 cancel appear to be the same, but the cancel on O18 is from a differnt Agency. It also has green ink on the SIX 6, no clue why. Any ideas?

It is also a much different date. Furthermore, the two left hand stamps were not canceled on this envelope. Something fishy going on?

The six cent stamps are in a collector's split back stamp mount, apparently just placed there for comparison.

It's an inset. Nice cancels!

Yes, it is an inset, placed there to keep the cancels near each other. The two Pine rifge cancels are apparently from the same cds just differnt ink and of course, differnt dates, can't decide where the other agency cancels is from, the odd thing is that the Pine Ridge agency should have been on a departmental stamp instead of regular postage stamps, as the dates in the cancels falls within the date of departmental stamp usage, and the Agency should have had those stamps. Of course, it could have been on non-agency mail.
Thank you, I also thought they were nice cancels, especially the blue sock on the nose strike on the American banknote, complete with matching star killer.

The unidentified agency is Otoe Agency in Nebraska, which operated in Gage County between 1862 & 1880. Also, a number of examples of that Pine Ridge Agency marking exist on regular mail, i.e. not using departmental officials. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the identification of that agency Mike. Is there a source listing for the various agencys? As to the Pine Ridge cancels, I figured that there was also regular mailing from the agency.
