Hey All,
I believe this is a cover from Nepal. Is it some sort of government official cover? What kind of handstamp is that next to the postmarks? Can anyone date the cover as well as tell the origin and destination?

Thanks,
Will

Yes, it is an official cover from Nepal. Can't help with the origin or destination, or the significance of the large backstamp.

If you could sharpen up the two CDSs, we might have a chance at origin and destination. The date is also very rough: 12 [illegible month] '2[possibly '8'].

I wish I could make a better image, but that's as good as it gets with this cover. The impressions are light and the rough nature of the handmade paper envelope didn't help. The rough paper envelopes seem to be common to Nepal and they don't take to ink well. Like trying to paint rough concrete with a paint roller. Thanks for verifying it is Nepal. The text on the front looks very clear if one can read Nepali.

Nepal just slips below my radar, but I think I posted here on SCF the process for making 'native' paper at Srinagar Jail in Jammu & Kashmir in the 19th century. If I didn't put it up, I'll be happy to do so now.

In fact, with early Jammu & Kashmir, one of the distinguishing marks of the reprints, as against the originals, is that the reprints are so much better printed, on much better quality native paper.

Indeed, my avatar here was printed on native paper, too, and it gives rather variable impressions.
