Is there anyone out there that collects town/city cancels just on stamps themselves? How do you organize them? I have quite a few and not sure how I should do it.
Stamp number(Scott) Cancel type(split ring, roller, etc) Province Cancel dates Alphabetical by town
Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thats part of the appeal of collecting, there is no right or wrong way. However you decide to orginize your town cancels will be right for you. If it was me, I'd start with Province then alphabeticaly by town, then each town by cancel date, then type, and let the Scott number follow as they will by date. |

Lot's of choices there. I have mine separated by cancel type initially (split-ring, squared circle, CDS, RPO).
My Split-ring, squared circle and RPOs are then organized in individual 102 cards with the details of the Scott #, town and date (the RPOs also have the Railway catalog #).
Sometimes there is more than one stamp in the card, if they are the same town.
The Split-rings are then organized by province alphabetically by town name. If town no longer exists (or name changes), I note that on the 102 card.
For the RPO binders, the railway catalog # takes priority, then the Scott #, province, date.
I don't have too many Squared Circles, so they are not organized by province or town,
The CDS stamps I prefer to organize by Scott # first. |

When collecting Canada precancels the traditional organization is: BAR TYPE [A-to-X] ... SCOTT NUMBER TOWN ... PRECANCEL STYLE ...... SCOTT NUMBER
There are about 3700 different, They fit [off cover] in one medium size album. |

I'm a W/W collector and collect cancels on stamps as a sideline. I store by country, and thereunder by town. I tend to mount them by country and then alphabetically by town. If I have a larger number of one town, such as Berlin or Paris, I''ll mount them chronologically by date.
As others have pointed out, lots of possibilities.

A.S. Your field is one that begs defining limits - O/W you could end up buried. (maybe meaning that both ways!) My suggestion - choose no more than 5 issues - no more than five cities - and seek stamps cancelled for every day stamp was available (until replaced) - and even that is a horrendous challenge. |

CS, your suggestion is reasonable if completion is the goal.
I don't care for completion (impossible as you say unless limits are placed), just nice cancels. so it depends on the goal. |
