I am starting on a topical/thematic collection related to the Lost City of Atlantis - Fact or Fiction. There are only a few stamps directly related, and a couple cinderellas. Does anyone have any thoughts on related subjects? My thoughts to date include underwater archaeology, Greek myth, Plato, Bahamas - any other thoughts out there? Thanks!

Nice! Try a Google Search for Minoan Hypothesis. It will lead you to one of the many hypotheses, and more topical ideas. The Minoan hypothesis is an idea that a volcano in Santorini destroyed a Minoan civilization near Crete and Thera, which may have been a basis for the Atlantis story. That should add many avenues for the topic...Minoans (and their art), the volcano (natural disaster angle), etc. I would look at the different theories. You could probably add in an Egypt tie, as well (Plato claims the story came from Egyptians). There's a whole area of study on geomythology...looking at old stories passed on by ancient peoples and how they tie in to ancient natural disasters.

Enjoy!
Amy

You mentioned cinderellas - have you checked out the Atlantis Local Post? I've seen quite a few different items, covers, and etc. Probably more a fantasy post than a local post, but still some interesting material there... John

Alexey. Very nice. It is always neat to see the stamp beside the actual item (if it still exists, of course.)
