Nice card. The small cross is a 'Croix PatŽe', which made up the Victorian 'Maltese Cross' cancellation, which itself was not a true Maltese Cross but an amalgamation of the Maltese Cross, the Croix PatŽe, and the Tudor Rose symbol. I believe the 'Croix PatŽe' design was also used to cancel USA stamps of the 1880s.

PS. The German version is called a 'Tatzenkreuz' and both this and 'Croix PatŽe' would translate as 'footed cross'
