Anyone going to this? The Spellman Museum is sponsoring a day trip on a bus from Boston on Saturday, so I am thinking of going. |

Nice Hotel! When I stayed in NYC for a week, I stayed at the Hotel New Yorker.
Historical Note: In the 1933 movie "King Kong", the scene where Kong takes the gal out of the NYC building was shot in the Hotel New Yorker. They had a little display and historical note about that, in the lobby.
I'll pass on this one... but I will be attending StampExpo 400 in Albany, NY, in September!

ORAPEX 2009 is 2-3 May 2009. Oh, how I wish I could go to the NYC show. So many dealers selling nice U.S. stamps. At ORAPEX, there will be one dealer selling U.S., and it is all over-priced. David |

Well, it looks like its going to be a beautiful spring day, here in New York. Perfect weather to drive down to NYC and attend the Big Show. Planning on meeting the 6 foot 8 midget Meostamps, around 10 am, but first I must hit the supermarket and cash in on all my beer bottles and soda cans |

The Spellman Museum bus trip to the show was canceled. Not enough people signed up. I wanted to go too! |

Hi all...Since I left Bobgggg at the show this morning, here is my report. 1. No exhibits to look at so a definite downer. 2. Arrived just before 10am and lined up with about 50 other males in the 40-70 age range. When I left Bobgggg around 11am, the crowd makeup about 100 people visiting, mostly 40-70 year old males and only a couple of females who looked like they were there to keep the husbands in line budget wise. Saw 2-3 youngsters with dads but if they had a kids area there I did not see it. 3. Dealers were scattered thru out 3-4 connected rooms and a bit more crowded than past shows at Madison Sq Garden. Also you needed to climb the stairs or take an elevator up a flight if you needed to use the bathrooms. 4. In the future, unless I am meeting someone or needing some supplies, I will skip this show unless it is at Madison Sq Garden or the Javitts Center. The New Yorker hotel location just not appeal to me personally. Mike in NYC |

I did well.. around 11:30 or so, they place emptied out. I stopped by a dealer from Calif. whom I had purchased stamps from at the fall show. I picked up Spain and Costa Rica airmail sets at 60 off catalog price.
I then hit a new dealer, Lebanon Pa. Stamp Co. I was able to find tons of Swiss complete Regular issues, and complete sets of Semi postals. He was 50 off catalog, 60 off if you spent more the $ 20.00 and 65 off $ 50.00 or more. I took advantage of the 65 off and dropped 70 bucks.
I too was disappointed that there were no exhibits, but I would say that there had to be around 40-45 dealers |
