I wanted to add a used U.S. #70 to my collection. I spotted one on ebay that I was a bit wary of as it looked "too good to be true." It appeared nicely centered and looked good from the pictures but it wasn't certified and was going for around $70. I put what I thought was a low bid in and won it for $80. I figured there was probably something wrong with it as I believe in the "you get what you pay for" axiom. Week later stamp arrives. I put it in watermark solution. Inspect it closely. Everything looks good so I send it off to PSE. I forgot to mention that the seller has a 14 day return policy and after that I'm eating it. Anyways...after about 6 weeks the stamp comes back from PSE. Lucky me. The stamp is sound in all respects. On top of that, it grades out as an 80. What really floors me is that it's not a #70, it's identified as a #70c which catalogs around $1,800 I believe.

Some people can fall in an outhouse and come out smelling like a rose. It looks like you did just that. Congrats. |

Notice on the Guam #9 that all the letters on on the same line relative to each other, they are very even. On the #10 the G and you are even, but the A is lower and the M is lower still. Uneven letters on US overprints or handstamp overprints and surcharges on postage and revenue stamps never occur like this, they were pretty careful about creating them. There are occasional missing or dropped letters in some overprints, but they are never this ragged. |

For those feeling envious....I've been burned enough times to negate the positive effects of this transaction. |

Thank you for the lesson. I had not even noticed the falling letters! Revcollecter, thank you for pointing out this to me. This is one stamp I'll not put into stack to go to PSA.
