With 6 months worth of stamps and two quarterly packs released so far in 2014 we have already hit around $99.00 for just these two.

I see the new rates are taking a toll on the wallet. with two more to go for the year I wonder what the total will be.

The most expensive yearly collection book was last year at about $75.00
including all the stamps and souvenir sheets, plus the hard cover book.
I am guessing that this years book will be well over $200.00.

Might be time to bring an end to my modern collection.

All of the rate change items at the much higher new rates contributed heavily to the price of the second quarter pack. But having a souvenir sheet for virtually every issue doesn't help either. I stopped collecting most US new issues a couple of years ago. Canada may be next.

phiatomic, I agree 100%. I buy the packs to fill my Davo album annual supplement and I buy the annual Canadian collector book because I have everyone since they brought them out many years ago. Time to back off.

At least the US stuff is still about 50% cheaper.

xyyz Frankly I cannot understand why someone would collect modern mint. Me, I like varieties.........whatever the period - so some are indeed contemporary. My preference is used and I have great fun trading / selling my dupes. All of it at the end of the day not costing me a whole lot.

Canada Stamp. I am still like a kid with my collection. Just like my baseball, football and hockey cards I like to have the whole set.

I probably have a few varieties but I can't look at anything that close and know what I am looking for. lol. Never have owned a magnifying glass.

Most of my collectibles get devalued if not perfect.

I have ended collecting modern canadian stamps in 2012...

in my mind, it was getting close to some kind of a racket with to many kind of shapes as describe in the Unitrade catalogue : gutter strip of 4, starter strip of 4, en strip of 4, die cut to shape from Quaterly Pack, souvenir sheet with inscription/ without inscription, different die cut patterns, straight cut at start, wavy die cut at start....

I am not enough an addict to purchase/ get the "entire set". It's obvious that Canada Post creates all these "different shapes" hoping we will buy them all...they need money !

I rather like to improve the quality of my "old ones" like the Admiral, Large and Small Queens issues...

Unfortunately I had to end my collecting of Canada booklets this year for the same reason.

I almost stopped buying the new and newest Canadian stamps a number of times. The second go around of the Lunar New Year pushed me to the brink but I stood steadfast. Then the proliferation of the CFL issue pushed be over. I ended the new issues at the end of 2012. Amazing how many dollars I have now to spend on the classic issues.
