I've been collecting and auction-buying for years, and sometimes I have been bad about not getting rid of duplicates and stuff I didn't need. I'm trying to find ways to sell it. I've sold a little of the higher-valued stuff on ebay, but I don't think the same would work for the cheaper (less than a few dollars) stuff, due to fees and shipping costs. I have thought about putting a bunch of packets together like we used to find in the old days. Has anyone tried this recently? Is there even a market for it anymore? Are there dealers out there that would buy them for reselling? Any advice on what sells?

Thanks!
Amy

Not sure a packet of stamps would garner much interest. Most lots sold like this show a group scan of all of the stamps. Prospective buyers can search the scans to see if there are items of interest. Many times they will buy a group for a couple specific stamps and then re-sell the rest.

Depends how much you want to get for them. I buy and sell tons of packets, both on ebay and through sellers that advertise in the Linn's classifieds. If you're OK with packaging random lots of 100 or so stamps at a few cents a stamp, there are plenty of buyers for stuff like that. You won't sell all of them in a day, but you can put up some fixed priced, multiple quantity listings for whatever you think is fair and just let them sit. If it's a good deal, you'll eventually get enough buyers and get rid of some stamps. You can also make up some country lots if you have a lot of stamps from particular countries. Again, you probably won't get more than a few cents apiece for common material, but it's a few cents more than you're getting for them now.

Thanks, all. I was really hoping to lessen the number of stamps and turn it into $ to buy a few specific things for my collection. I have many thousands, and right now I am trying to catalogue and sort them, but it's taking FOREVER! I was thinking of packets for some topical stuff. I also want to do things like "100 stamps from 100 countries" (less or more) with a link or info about the free album from the Smithsonian. It takes time to put something like that together, and I know I'll never get paid for the time, but I will hopefully clear out some stuff. Just not sure if they usually sell at all. I would hate to put in all the time for nothing. Sounds like if the price is right, though, they might go.

I keep uncatalogued stamps on manilla stocksheets (you can really cram a ton of stamps on those things) and in glassines sorted by country. I just have listings of 100-500 stamps packaged various ways, and I select the stamps for each selection after the order is placed. With a little organization, putting a lot together just takes a few minutes. Filling the lot after the order is placed also makes it easier to avoid duplication if someone orders multiple lots, which is something every seller wants.

Resonable shipping does help to sell any item.

Something like '100 Worldwide stamps' works also.

There are all kinds of tips to use depending on what you are selling and your market, the peole who might me interested in those stamps or other items.

Look at successful sellers (big number after name on ebay) and see what they do.
