Are the pages thicker in the 1947 Scott International Big Blue album than the 1943 Scott International Junior Big Blue album?

Hi,
Over the last three years I've bought/sold over 20 Scott Internationals (vol 1-V) in my attempt to put together the best set I could. It soon became obvious that there were different "grades" of paper used. This was especially apparent in volume 2, where the paper was thicker and of - in my opinion - lesser quality. Later editions used much smoother and thinner paper.

As an aside..... I ended up using an older edition of volume 2 for my collection, and it has a significant quantity of stamps mounted. Then a few months ago I came across a "new and improved" set of pages. It still sits on my shelf, for the idea of transferring 8k of stamps is more than I want to deal with.

Mobilman that is my problem too. I have a 1943 International Junior with 8,500 stamps and a 1947 International with 6,000 stamps. The 1943 pages are yellowed and seem thin or just more softer than the white, stiffer 1947. I did not want to transfer the 1943 to the 1947 even though it is much nicer. Too much effort so I have made the 1943 my main album. But sometimes it bothers me. I plan on continuing the Big Blue for a long time to come. Also, the 1947 hinges remove more easily. Any thoughts anyone? Thank you, neurotic Randy

Hi,
I have had a lot of experience removing hinges. Some are easy, some hard, some impossible (w/o soaking). I've done some experiments with 5 different types with very definite results. By far, the best are the old Dennison (green). Next comes the old "Fold o Hinge". Everything else I tested were way far back in results. Of course the Dennison's are out of production, and only available on ebay for about $18-$20. Fold o Hinges are available on ebay for about $15.

Special note...... the good ones are DennisOns - and not the DennisEns. They are NOT in any way the same.
