The second stamp is Philippines under Japanese occupation. SC#N18 issued 1943-44.

The first has a currency in Somaliland Shillings (Shilin as written here) but the script on the RHS has me stumped.

TimH, I think you're right. Look at the scrip on the right hand side. It looks like Soomaaliya to me.

Welcome to SCF, robert4!

I don't follow modern stamp issues, and I especially don't know the first thing about Somali stamps, but I suspect that this one might not be legitimate.

I don't see a Somalia circular for 2012 stamps on the Universal Postal Union website, but I don't think that is a definitive answer. (For those who may not know it, the UPU issues several declarations each year regarding postage stamps...illegal issues, postal forgeries, etc... the home page for their circulars is here:

Somalia has been just about the world's worst basket case for quite a few years now and it's doubtful they've had much of a functioning postal system for most of the last couple decades. There's likely not even a postal agency there that could even make deals to have stamps printed.

Somaliland is the western part of Somalia and it has proclaimed independence (albeit not officially recognized by anyone) in 1991. Compared to the rest of Somalia they're actually doing pretty well.

Of course this does not say anything about the validity of the above shown stamp.

Valid or not, it's pretty unlikely many (if any) of these stamps have even gotten near Somalia or Somalialand. Of course, if one likes this stamp and others from this country and want to collect them, there's no reason not to; I'm not trying to tell anyone what to collect. In a way, all of us are a bit nuts for spending real, hard earned money on these little pieces paper, regardless of what's printed on them.
