Hi,

I have the following postcard sent from NY to Riga Russia in 1909:

I can see that it bears a US International machine cancel out of NY, NY Station K on October 2,1909. I can also make out a local machine cancel, presumedly applied in Russia, dated October 24th.

Could any of you help me identify the type of machine used to apply the Russian cancel?

Thanks,

Larry

Looks more like a roller cancel. What is it you would like to know about the cancel? Does the the other side of the postcard give any indication of it's place of origin?

It looks like a RIGA cancellation. The "reversed N" of the letter I, the gamma-shaped capital G and the final A are all visible at the top of the CDS part of the postmark.

I'll check the Robinson "Russian Postmarks" when I get home to see if it says anything about the machine cancellations.
