Stamp Insider for September–October 2014

The September–October issue of the Stamp Insider, journal of the Federation of New York Philatelic Societies, is online and available for free download in PDF format or viewing online with page turning. It is available in both PDF and HTML5-friendly format at:

http://www.stampinsider.org

In the lead article — "An Interrupted Mail Primer" — author Norman Hoggarth introduces readers to mail that was delayed by aviation, rail, and maritime disasters, civil unrest and war, fire, disinfection and quarantine, and more.

Other articles include "Stamps with Wandering Dates" explains USPS' year dating logic, philately related to the 45th anniversary of the Moon landing in 1969, and a pictorial report on the Hudson River School first day ceremony at StampShow in Hartford, Connecticut.

Some of the columns have been expanded to provide more information to readers, including Diane DeBlois' Ephemera that explores a cache of 2,250 eleven-cent Washington-Franklin stamps. Again we recommend that readers visit the club pages (54–76), as most contain invaluable philatelic information.

The featured video — "Flying the Mail" — is a silent film dramatization of airmail service in the early days of CAM — Contract Airmail Service — in the late 1920s.
