Caretta caretta is Latin and are the genus and species names of the Loggerhead sea turtle (as shown).

Kapetta may be am anglicised Greek word for the turtle. Found on the Ionian islands.

Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca ibera), designed by Aida Tasgian Constantinescu, printed by photogravure, and issued by Romania on February 25, 1965 as one of a set of ten reptiles stamps, Scott No. 1719.

Canada's Franklin the Turtle. In French he is called Benjamin la tortue, I am not quite sure why his name is different in English and French

Reseearch team ETH Zurich are researching Turtle Power, tranporting cargo within the outer shell in man-made turtles.

One of the concept deigns is shown below:

ECUADOR : One of the giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands



A remembrance and tribute to Lonesome George, the last of the Pinta Island giant tortoises.
Lonesome George died on 24 June 2012, and he was believed to be about 100 years.
