can anyone identify scott number and or country for this stamp. Was found in a glassine in a world wide collection with emphasis on germany. Per chance a forgery or local stamp?

Thank you for your time and assistance,
Respectfully,
Richard

It is a 12pf Schiller stamp from Thuringia under Soviet Occupation (1945). Scott Cat 16N6 and Michel 97. Michel lists a number of paper, color and gum variations.

I can't tell the color or paper variations from the scan and detecting gum variations on a used stamp is tricky at best in person. It does look like a Type 1, with a sharp neckline.

These stamps were used for only a short period of time so the cancellation most likely was applied later. Cancelled stamps from this period are usually considered CTO unless they get expertized which usually isn't cost effective.

Michel doesn't note any forgeries or fakes.

Hope that helps!
Dan

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

Richard,

You are quite welcome! Soviet Occupied Germany is one of my collecting interests. (I have two pages of variations on this stamp and am still missing some)
So few people collect this area, I get excited when a question comes up!
