When I think of Canada I think of the RCMP. Probably the most widely recognised police force in the world.

Talk of America reminded me of reading this about the NWMP, forerunner of the RCMP. Initially issued with buff or grey riding britches as part of their uniform, allegedly some officers on patrol along the Canadian / US border traded pants with US Cavalry troopers which heralded an unofficial adoption of the blue britches with the yellow/gold stripe. But did the US Cavalry ever wear dark blue uniform britches instead of the regulation sky blue? Anyone know more about this?

Terry

PS added this old newspaper photo for anyone interested.

What parts of Canada don't get snow? All parts below the 49th certainly do. We do in Victoria, they do in Sarnia/Windor.

CanadaStamp, I was just answering Wert's question. My real answer was the Maple Leaf, but I was getting back at Wert for his remark about the "Yanks".
