I bought a used Raytech LS-2 UV lamp a while back and only really tried it today now that the evenings are getting darker. It doesn't seem to work very well, not as well as the cheap little battery powered one I have, not even a brand on it. My question is how can you tell if the lamp or the filters (two dark windows on this model so I believe it has both short wave and long wave) need replacing? Nothing on the Raytech site, and nothing specific in other threads on this list.
Stray Feathers, usually the bulb wears out. That is visible by the amount of black inside the bulb. Please do not look at the bulb with the power on, this will damage your eyesight. But with power off you will see a black "coating" on the inside of the glass, usually getting larger from both ends The larger this area gets, the less powerful the bulb! Of course, a weak battery will do the same. Rechargeable batteries are nice but in my experience they weaken fast!
