Hello. Why is there a black 2d on this stamp?

Stamp is re-valued. Postage rates went up so they are using up old stock instead of printing new stamps - or allowing for the interim until new stamps are available.

Hi mavericks and CanadaStamp. I have one exactly like that...can't remember if it's used or unused but it will be in the upcoming Foreign Stamp Giveaway!

Bumping this thread up just because there is a well-known error of one of these overprinted stamps. The one shown here isn't the error but, if you see one from the issue with stars in the bottom right corner, then you may have a really nice stamp. However, it has been fair game for forgers.

Hi, NBStamper is right, if you find (unlikely), an 2d over print with stars in the right-hand bottom corner, you're onto a winner. My 2008 catalogue values it at NZ$525 although you could possible obtain one for a little less if you looked around. These are some from two old (1966) albums that I have - unfortunately the expensive ones missing.

Overprinting is quite common on quite a number of NZ stamps. Here's a couple of examples.

The first NZ issue of QEII stamps was one of the most beautiful of the early issues and one of the reasons I was drawn to New Zealand as a collecting interest. The sets I bought back in the 60's are still in my album.
